Beginnings
American event rider Emily Beshear’s career began aged seven with an unbroken pony arriving in the back of a van. After lessons at a local event yard, Emily got the bug for competing by starting 4-H aged ten and began eventing the following year. Emily was a working student for Karen and David O’Connor and with their help, has established her own business and string of eventers at Brickland Farm.
Who is the biggest influence in your career so far?
My parents because they encouraged me to work hard and follow my dreams.
What is the highlight of your career to date?
My Rolex completion.
Can you share your best advice with us?
The best advice I have received, which is also the best advice I could give is that in order to make a career of this, you have to enjoy the process and not get too fixated on the end goal.
What are your goals for the future?
To be considered for the 2018 World Games and be able to have horses competing at the three and four star levels for years to come. I would also like to be able to train one of Delta’s babies to four star level.
Tell us about your horses
Here’s To You (Quincy): a 16.1hh Thoroughbred gelding and has helped me achieve the biggest accomplishments of my career so far. Together we have completed several CCI*** and CCI ****. Quincy doesn’t know he’s a horse and would love to be invited inside at the end of the day.
Shame on the Moon (Delta): a 16.2hh Trakehner/TB mare that is the diva of the barn. She has completed several CCI*** including a 7th place finish at Blenheim Palace.
Silver Night Lady (Silvy): a 16.3hh Irish Sport Horse that has moved up to three star level. Looks are deceiving with this girl! She’s the biggest horse in the barn but may be the most sensitive and eager to please.

What’s most important to you when you’re buying a horse?
The biggest thing I look at is temperament. I want my horses to be trainable and willing to work with the rider. I’ve found that if I can build a strong partnership with my horses we can overcome any inherent weaknesses.
What are your favourite Shires Equestrian products?
The 100g Turnout Blanket – this is our 3-season go to! Every horse in the barn has one and it is their most worn blanket. Durable, waterproof, and fits everyone. We love the attached neck to prevent water from getting in and they also don’t rub out the horse’s mane.
SupaFleece Line – we love all the SupaFleece products! The pads have become our go to for the sensitive horses and prevent saddle rubs when they’re clipped in the winter. The halter sets are perfect for long trailer rides and are machine washable so they’re easy to keep clean.
ARMA Boots – the cross country boots are extremely well built and fit the TB legs as well as the Irish horses’ legs. The show jumping boots are protective and look great. The fleece lined schooling boots are great for every day. They prevent rubs on our sensitive horse, are very durable and can be thrown in the laundry often.
